The Experience
The attention to detail in design, decoration and craftsmanship is phenomenal – come to be inspired. It’s open plan but cosy with underfloor heating and a wood-burning stove, very comfy sofas, a fully-fledged kitchen with an Aga and stairs up to the bedroom with a galleried landing. You have your own little patch of garden for early morning tea or a sundowner overlooking the Teme and Kyre valleys.
Footpaths and bridleways crisscross the estate through ancient woodlands where badgers, woodpeckers, buzzards and owls are prolific, there’s a babbling brook for a paddle and acres of fields to tramp.
Visit foodie Ludlow for street markets, good restaurants, a castle and the start of the Mortimer Trail. Cyclists can set off for miles of blissfully car-free gentle hills. This is a remarkably restorative place for city dwellers.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. Booking the cottage with Ellie was a very straightforward affair with fast and very friendly responses. We arrived to an oasis of tranquility, a beautiful place with views to die for. And the cottage, words cannot describe the attention to detail and love that has been bestowed on this unique building. There is Oak everywhere and wrought iron and stained glass, beautiful! The house was warm, the welcome too. We loved our stay here, totally relaxing from start to finish. Make a visit, you will be glad you did.

My wife and I were enchanted by this property built with the intention of providing a delightful stay. We found everything we needed to relax both inside and outside and the equipment required to self-cater. Fairy cakes to eat and vases of freshly picked garden flowers made us feel welcome from the moment we entered the cottage and Eleanor was always on hand. If you have some disability just be aware that the stairs to bed in the loft may be a challenge. We shall be keeping the details and recommending Ebony Cottage to our friends.

Ebony is a beautifully crafted architectural delight. We loved the spacious light and airy living area and quaint gallery bedroom. Bathed in light during the day and with so much window space you feel at one with the countryside in front of you. And with the curtains drawn on a cold winters night, you feel cocooned in a cosy, space glowing in front of the wood burner. I would rather this remain our secret but a cottage experience as good as this in the middle of beautiful Worcestershire countryside is a rare treasure . Thankyou Ellie for sharing this with us.

Location
The neighbourhood
You're right on the border of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire - possibly the three least-discovered English counties, so whether walking or cycling you'll find much peace and solitude. The nearest town is four miles away, Tenbury Wells, with a spa and market. Ludlow is a 15-minute drive for stocking up, follow the black and white villages trail or head to the Malvern Hills.

Ellie Van Straaten loves hosting guests at the cottages, and nothing is too much trouble. The cottages are a labour of love; she designed and hand-crafted much of the interiors herself.
