The Experience

Annalisa has given this typical podere farmhouse a thorough restoration as sustainably as possible. It’s filled with light, there are Japanese and Swedish influences and an unobstructed flow from room to room giving a wonderful ambience. The large living area leads directly to a covered pergola with dining table – this is where you’ll spend most of your time, soaking up the peace, having long lazy meals with the scent of lavender in the air. When it all gets too much you can slide into the cooling pool.

The kitchen is a joy to cook in. It’s large, bright and packed with kit, including an extra-large fridge and a professional Smeg induction cooker. There’s a big table in here too for those who like to chat and you’ll find a bottle of the owners’ olive oil and lavender essence. In the garden there’s a pizza oven, pétanque court and ping-pong table.

Bedrooms are minimalist with spots of colour and good art; bathrooms have open rain showers.

Reviews

Almost resembling a Mediterranean residence by the sea with its prevalently white facade and interiors, Annalisa has combined her passion for the artful simplicity of Japanese and Swedish design with the feng shui philosophy of space and light. The results are potent with an immediate sense of calm and wellness from the natural Mediterranean garden and lavender fields. Maremma is yours to explore.

The neighbourhood

The Maremma countryside is made up of vast cultivated fields, olive groves, vineyards and soft rolling hills. Walks will be wonderful, or hire bikes. Marsiliana is the nearest town which has a good country trattoria with outdoor seating, a bar, supermarket and butcher. Wineries abound – try La Chimera where dinner can also be booked on request. Magliano in Toscana is a jewel of a medieval town.

Introducing

Annalisa Piras

Annalisa is an artist – you'll see her art collection in the house. She returned to her grandfather's Maremma to restore a typical podere and create a space for total relaxation and wellness. She has a busy life moving between London and Rome as a filmmaker and journalist but loves to spend time here when she can, painting and gardening. If she can't greet you then a kind local will be on hand.
