The Experience

Here’s something for families who want the Tuscan sun but don’t want to spend the earth. Querceto is a hamlet, a rambling medieval borgo on many levels, whose nucleus is a castle around which workers’ cottages have evolved (and in the family since 1543!). Leave the car outside the walls and enter a timewarp; the Liscis may own 15 hectares of vineyards and produce a number of important red wines but no-one is in a hurry here. The apartments will charm you: a clean plain décor in a rustic style, comfort without the frills. There are bright tartan cotton bedspreads, dark shutters to keep out the light, resuscitated floor tiles and nice old doors, simple kitchens with copper pans; the farmhouse sleeping eight (set apart with a small private pool) is brilliant value. The restaurant in the village serves traditional Tuscan dishes following the Ginori Lisci family’s old recipes, you can order fresh bread at reception and buy locally grown farm veg twice a week. The grounds (not the gardens) are yours to roam, picnic spots are close and the big swimming pool is down the steep track, surrounded by olive trees.

Il Quercetto is imbued with the essence of pure Toscana: inspiring vistas on all sides of golden rolling hills with olive groves, vine yards, forested hill tops with the occasional settlements and farmhouses punctuating the blissful scene. The location is like a movie set, but better because it is real and true. One can feel its deep history in the stones and the bricks, yet is fully alive and vibrant. The accommodation is composed of elegant, spacious and tastefully appointed apartments with a host of original features. If you're looking to truly unwind this is the place for you.

Querceto is a dream location in the heart of the tuscan hills. A truly special place to stay. Accommodation is lovely, very comfortable. Staff genuinely friendly and helpful. The on-site restaurant serves delicious and well priced food. Stunning views at every turn. If you’re looking for a real tuscan switch off you couldn’t find a better place.

Local points of interest from Cristina Sannazzaro

  • Querceto is the perfect place for nature lovers and for those who are interested in visiting famous Tuscan cities and towns such as Pisa, Florence, Siena, Volterra, San Gimignano, Bolgheri and other charming villages of the Val di Cecina.
  • For those who love the sea, the beaches of Cecina and Bibbona are only 25 minutes away.
  • In summer towns around Querceto hold various festivals and events; moreover a varied program of art exhibitions, concerts, shows and cultural courses are organized at Querceto by our family and by Accademia Libera & Natura.
  • Querceto is also the heart of the vineyard of our family. Our guests will be conducted in a short and pleasant walk along the hamlet discovering the history of the castle and visiting the places where the wine production takes place.
