Staying in a holiday cottage with a hot tub in Scotland is one of the most magical ways to experience this wild and beautiful country. Days spent bagging Munros, striding along windswept coastal paths, or braving wild swims in icy lochs can leave your limbs weary. The best remedy? A long, soothing soak. That’s why we’ve gathered our favourite self-catering cottages with hot tubs in Scotland – from rustic wood-fired tubs hidden in the hills to luxury retreats with lochside views. Return from your adventures, sink into the bubbles with a glass in hand, and watch the stars appear overhead.

Penicuik Estate – Clermount, Midlothian

Romantic hot tub hideaway near Edinburgh

Tucked into the beautiful Designed Landscape of Penicuik Estate, this cosy one-bed bolthole is a wonderfully private retreat for two. Outside, you’ll find plantation chairs, a Big Green Egg barbecue, and your own cedar hot tub – the perfect spot for cocktails under the stars. Indoors is equally dreamy: a soft-toned sitting room with wood-burner and good art, a sleek kitchen with the option to order hampers or a private chef, and a voluptuous bedroom that takes up the entire top floor. By day, you can wander the estate’s 20km of marked trails or cycle through woodland alive with birds and butterflies, then sink back into the tub for one of the most relaxing hot tub breaks in Scotland.

Guest Louisa: Clermount is an exceptional cottage, I struggle to fault it! Super comfy and so much to explore on the estate. A great place to get away from it all.

The Artist’s House at Jupiter Artland, Edinburgh

Art, nature and a wood-fired bath

A hop from Edinburgh, Jupiter Artland is an award-winning contemporary sculpture garden, set in over 100 acres of meadow, woodland and indoor gallery space. You stay in a gorgeous cottage onsite so you get the sculptures to yourselves once the visitors leave. Feel cocooned indoors under beamed ceilings and African beaded lampshades. A wood-burning stove belts out the heat and early drawings by Phyllida Barlow and hundreds of books about art and design surround you. Bedrooms are gorgeous , but best of all is lolling in the outdoor, wood-fired bath, glass of wine in hand, while somebody else starts the barbecue.

Guest Chris: The Artist’s House is a unique place to stay. The interior is beautiful and comfortable with panoramic views from the deck and beautiful sunsets. Having the sculpture park to ourselves was an absolute treat.
