The Experience

This former bakehouse and piggery dating from the 1600s has been sympathetically renovated into a cottage for two. Mark and Tricia, who live across the courtyard in Le Pas Cru farmhouse, crafted much of the furniture themselves, including the four-poster bed, oak cabinets and country-style kitchen.

The open-plan kitchen and living area is a sociable place to rustle up supper while enjoying aperitifs. Later, relax with a soak in the roll-top tub or cosy up by the wood burning stove.

The cottage is in the grounds of Le Pas Cru, surrounded by a hectare of landscaped gardens, and you have your own private garden and patio for morning coffee or a barbecue. Drive 20 minutes to Dol de Bretagne for restaurants, or to Le Mont-St-Michel – borrow a bicycle and get there in an hour. Come back to a welcome hamper with delicious treats of local cider, cheese and bread.

Reviews

Our second stay this year, for two weeks this time, and it was every bit as wonderful as we remembered. The total peace and quiet of the location, plus great places for walking locally, felt like having a 'factory reset' from a busy life. The cottage is beautifully appointed, a calm and comfortable space with everything you need. Great shower, top quality bedding. Well maintained, private and peaceful garden. Tricia and Mark are the perfect hosts, you don't know they are there (unless you need them). We're looking forward to staying again next year.

We have just returned from a delightful week at Le Pas Cru in Brittany. We wanted for nothing, it was immaculate beautifully appointed and spotlessly clean. The grounds were well kept and the vision that Tricia and Mark must had had many years ago when they bought the property has truly been fulfilled with their hard work and attention to detail. A perfect place to rest and relax we look forward to returning at some point in the future.

Sandra and David, Pinner

This is a fabulous cottage, set amidst beautiful private gardens. The property is deceptively spacious, complete with bespoke oak furniture and lovely decorative finishes. Everything you could possibly need is provided, from kitchen accessories, to board games and garden furniture. The property is immaculate throughout. Communications with the owners were friendly/timely and Tricia was there to greet us on arrival. Tricia and Mark have created somewhere very special and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

If you are looking for a holiday on a quiet spot, with lots of nature around you, come to Le Fornil. The house is tidy and neat, with plenty of space for 2 persons. The kitchen and bathroom are very luxurious. You have lots of privacy and it is great to sit outside and watch the garden and the birds. There are plenty interesting places to visit in the area. The owners are very friendly and helpfull people who respect your privacy.

We had a fantastic week in Le Fournil. The house is lovely, the garden is superb and peaceful. Tricia and Marc are perfect hosts. The surroudings are very quiet. We made superb walks from the house (if you climb the nearby hill, the Mont St Michel is visible, like a fata morgana), we ate very good mussels near the sea and saw some lovely gardens. We can highly recommend this house!

Juliette, Amsterdam

A wonderful, completely restored house with a beautiful garden. Privacy guaranteed. Lot’s of birds, deer, squirrels. We even saw a fox! With the coast and all the beautiful medieval places nearby, we had a lovely holiday.

Jeannine, Abcoude

We enjoyed a calm and relaxing week at Le Fournil. The property was spotlessly clean, well appointed and very comfortable. The weather was good while we were there and so we could enjoy breakfast and dinner in the garden most days. The garden itself was a delight - large, private, well maintained and full of colour in a surrounding environment which was virtually silent apart from the glorious birdsong. Tricia and Mark who live in the main house across the courtyard were excellent and unobtrusive hosts and it was a delight to meet them.

Richard, Reading

My wife and I had the most relaxing and enjoyable holiday staying at Le Fournil. The cottage is beautifully appointed inside and out. The garden is so peaceful. The village is a pleasant 20 minute walk away. Your hosts are very discreet but available if needed. Thoroughly recommended. 🥖🍷🥐🍰🌞☘️🦌

This is a delightful cottage deep in the countryside on the Brittany/Normandy border, 20 minutes or so from Mont St Michel. The setting is so restful and the gite is incredibly well appointed, with old beams and stone walls enclosing a comfortable hideaway, perfect for a week à deux. The hosts are on site but very discrete. They are available on request but never intrude. There is a private large garden for the cottage with plenty of outdoor furniture including sun loungers. Access to the farm is via back roads with no through traffic except an occasional tractor. The bakery is 2 mins away.

David, Edinburgh

What a beautiful place! Set in a very peaceful location amidst rolling fields and single lane roads. The cottage is stunning and spacious. It is immaculately clean and has everything you need for your stay. The beautiful garden is large and very well kept, with a small stream running through it. We loved sitting, just listening to the birds and watching the wildlife. Mark & Tricia are the perfect hosts. There if you needed them but left us alone to enjoy their beautiful cottage. Highly recommended!

Jacqueline, Whitehaven

Outstanding! The location is wonderful, no traffic, no light pollution - starry skies. Much thought, care & skill went into the renovation; lovely natural materials used throughout, creating a clear, calm space that flows well & is very relaxing to be in. Thoughtful touches & quality everywhere - bed, bedding, kitchenware, excellent waterfall shower. Wonderful large private garden - just peace & birdsong. Tricia & Mark are helpful but unobtrusive. We loved it.

Ross & Loraine, Poole

A delightful, spacious retreat in the countryside with a huge garden, brilliant for wildlife watching. The house was very well equipped, spotlessly clean and had superb wifi. There are many attractions within a short driving distance. Mark and Tricia were great hosts - they were very friendly, there if needed but also respected the privacy of guests. Thoroughly recommended.

David and Christine, Cheshire

Wonderful stay in beautiful surroundings. The cottage is fantastic, spacious and well equipped……very comfortable. The garden is a wonderful highlight and a haven for wildlife. This is a very special idyllic place that instantly makes you relax.

Vera and Roger, Cambridgeshire

A true hidden gem. Hidden in the sense that it has a ‘middle of nowhere’ feel to it, while still in easy driving vicinity of popular Brittany/Normandy places like Mont St Michel, Cancale, St Malo, Dinard and medieval Dinan. And a gem in multiple senses. First the house itself is beautiful with eye for detail, especially in the woodwork. The one bedroom, bathroom and kitchen are surprisingly spacious. The garden is huge and we appreciated full privacy granted by our hosts Tricia and Mark. The surroundings make for nice walks and during the sunset period you are likely to spot local wildlife!

Patrick, Amsterdam

We had a lovely stay. The house is perfect. They thought about everything and it's realy clean. The garden is also perfect. The only thing you can hear are the birds.

Maaike, Rotterdam

An absolutely delightful cottage, very clean and thoughtfully equipped and furnished. It was a great place to have as a base to explore the area, but as the week went on we found we also wanted to spend time at the cottage and in the beautiful, restful garden. Having our morning cup of tea, sitting in bed, looking out of the doors to the garden, with the birds feeding and the red squirrels playing was a particular highlight each day. Tricia and Mark were so welcoming and helpful. We would definitely hope to come back again soon. You won't be disappointed if you choose Le Fournil.

Haydn, Exmouth, UK

We have had the most delightful few days at Le Fournil where we felt truly immersed in the wildlife and serenity of the place - both grounds and gite. Woodland walks, wildlife spotting (deer, red squirrel and a great spotted woodpecker to name a few highlights!) and utter relaxation made our stay at Le Pas Cru truly memorable and completely restorative. Tricia and Mark are the perfect hosts: on hand if you need anything but very discreet, allowing you to just 'be' in the beautiful surroundings. A very special place which we know we will return to and 5 stars are really not enough!

Yvonne and Dave, London

We loved our visit to Le Fournil. Mark and Tricia are lovely hosts, and have done an amazing job remodeling the old Bake House into a cozy and modern haven. We felt immediately at home, and had lazy mornings enjoying the cottage and gardens, and spent our days visiting nearby sights. We couldn't wait to return each evening, and often cooked dinner in the amazing kitchen. As a designer, Stephen was so impressed with the cabinet's beaded inset detailing, and the woodwork and furniture that Mark and Tricia built. We look forward to returning in the future and staying longer!

Stephen, Sunset Beach

Enchanting, magical, so peaceful to be surrounded by nature in a beautifully crafted cottage converted from an old bread oven and outbuilding by the very talented Tricia and Mark. The wooded with grounds are extensive and private , spectacular at any time of the year. The cottage is equipped with everything you could wish for and has been designed and decorated with very good and elegant taste. 5 stars isn’t quite enough !

Irene, Jersey

Introducing

Mark & Tricia Lovesey

Tricia is a former bank auditor from Lancashire and Mark was a professional photographer. They decided to change their lifestyle in 2004 and moved to France to start a new life, renovating the unloved, almost derelict farmhouse before finishing the renovation of the cottage in late summer 2019. Their achievements are incredible - not only did they do much of the work themselves, but they went on to master the art of carpentry and cabinet making. They have lovingly created a wonderful retreat and are friendly, warm and welcoming.
