The
Experience

Birdsong, rushing water, rustling leaves… half-way up Mount Canigou, in the Mediterranean Pyrenees, this lovely old fruit farm, perfect for couples or families, stands in 11 verdant acres with dreamy views of green-cloaked mountains. Immensely restful, it makes the bumpy journey worth it. Four separate gîtes are perfect for singles, couples or families and all have their own outdoor space and terrace so you’ll feel nicely private. Interiors are cool and uncluttered with whitewashed walls, simple old pine furniture, tiled floors, comfortable beds, modern kitchens and bathrooms. In cooler months you can light the wood-burners and keep toasty warm, in summer splash in the pretty shared pool with its heavenly views. Wander the lush acres around you to find rare Cameroon sheep, some Catalan donkeys and hens from which you may buy your breakfast eggs when they are laying. Simon and Ashley, busy but friendly, live in the farmhouse and know the best walks, cycle routes, the closest restaurant, café and bar (a 30-minute walk). The coast and Perpignan are good day trips, there is much to do in this area of France.

Reviews

After a very warm welcome, I spent a wonderful week with my son. You immediately feel like a family member. Both the garden and the apartment are clean, well maintained and tastefully decorated. In the middle of nature with cheerful birdsong you will find pure relaxation. The area offers many opportunities for excursions, very good food and amiable, hospitable people wherever you go. Top! We will be back!

We spent two weeks at La Bergerie beginning of May. Our gîte was charming and cozy and had all facilities you need for a comfortable stay. The garden and surrounding areas, like the little stream on the property, was just lovely. Simon was a great host, friendly and helpful. We also had a great time with his dog Blue who enjoyed playing with us. We would highly recommend a stay here!

We quickly settled into our very comfortable, well-equipped gite - La Bergerie - nestled into the rocks of the ravine. The soft rush of the River Fou and mellow birdsong were the soundtrack of our very relaxing vacation and we had magnificent tree-top views without needing to leave the house! We got to know the chickens and sheep that live at Can Llouquette along with Blue the friendly border collie and the owners Simon and Ashley who were a great source of knowledge about the local area.

The valley is exceptionally stunning with beautiful views in the day and shooting stars at night. It was a fantastic experience staying in a place that was actually built by Simon, the owner. Simon was incredibly welcoming and helpful, showing us an inspiring way of life. Anyone would be lucky to come here. We will definitely come back!

The house of our dreams. We enjoyed so much the company and the place. The location is perfect and the hosting family so lovely

We stayed from September 23rd 'til 30th with our newborn baby and our dog. Those were our first holidays since our daughter was born and we can not imagine a better place to spend them. There are lots of activities nearby, trails, places to visit and local food products to enjoy. Our dog met Blue, Simon's dog, a never-ending source of joy and energy to play with. During our walks around the house, we were able to discover some of the local fauna and flora, enjoy a meal in a grass field or close to the river, read a book or just having a nap without being disturbed by any noise.

Tucked away near a little stream with lots of grounds this well restaured Mas is all you need to feel comfy. Cooking, grilling, relaxing, letting the kids or toddlers just having fun, hiking or sight seeing in the Kathar's country or driving down to the Med or just having dinner in the next village. Very friendly helpful owner. Well kept place with terrific pool.

We spent two and a half week in the apartment "Le Pommier". Everything was perfect: We liked the pure nature around, the silence and the mountains. And, last not least, Simon was a very attentive and charming host. We will surely be coming back.

Can Llouquette was all we needed for our summer holiday. The gite was clean, bright and well laid out. The farm is wonderfully quiet, with plenty of space for the children to run about in. The pool was well situated, with a good range of seats and recliners. We had a private terrace which allowed grown ups to read in peace whilst the children explored. The children loved not only the pool, but also exploring, playing in the stream and attempting to stay on the hammocks - I think they mastered it by the end of the week. We were made very welcome by Simon and his family and had a wonderful holid

We can highly recommend Can Llouquette for anyone looking for a family holiday in peaceful and beautiful surroundings. Our family spent a week at the atelier at Can Llouquette in August 2017, and we were had a wonderful time. Right from the first contact, Simon was very helpful and responsive, giving us advice to prepare our trip. Can Llouquette is an idyllic place, nestled into a wooded valley all on its own, so a haven for nature lovers.

Can Llouquette is just a perfect place in the Pyrenees (near Mount Canigou, so close to the French-Spanish border). Really quiet and very private, child friendly (superb swimming pool, a nice stream downhill with hammocks, a football area,…) and green, well equipped gites (good beds, private terrace) and, last but not least, the hospitality of Simon and Ashley is wonderful (very friendly and lots of good hints). Can Llouquette is a little paradise (hmm, in fact not so little). We will definitely come back!

We spent a very nice holiday in La Bergerie. The house itself is nice and clean and situated on a very big terrain crossed by a little river (stream) where our kids (7 and 9 years old) spent may hours playing and building dams. From Can Llouquette it is possible to make many trips to beautiful villages (both in France and Spain) and local markets to buy fresh fruit and vegetables. We also made some nice walks in the surrounding mountains. Absolutely a house we would like to return to one day!

We spent an idyllic week at Simon's breathtaking property, and were so reluctant to leave; we would happily have spent an entire month there. The cottage is utterly charming, rustic stone with lovely interiors. With the windows thrown open, the sound of running mountain water and birdsong was ever-present. The cottage is beautifully appointed, including a full kitchen with everything one needs to self-cater. The property itself is simply idyllic, can't recommend Simon's hospitality and property highly enough.

We stayed in the Atelier in Can Llouquette from 17th June to 1st July 2017. We had a wonderful stay. The property is entirely beautiful… The swimming pool was wonderful and the natural plunge pool was magical. The Atelier was beautifully clean and extremely well equipped with everything we needed for our stay. Our host, Simon, was always helpful and provided us with extremely useful information about lovely spots to visit and markets to see. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return again. We highly recommend Can Lloquette as a holiday destination.

I stayed at Can Llouquette for a month. This stay will be engraved in my memory for a lifetime. I was astonished by the location and the surrounding beauty. The house is located near a nice river between two mountains, in a very preserved environment. The accommodation is very well furnished, nothing is missing. Simon is a fantastic host! He welcomed me warmly even though I arrived very late at night. He is very kind and honest: he arranged an upgrade for me to be more comfortable. We shared meals in the evening and had good times. I am looking forward to go visit him sometimes.

Cedric, Paris

Lovely renovated farmhouse in the middle of lower Pyrenees. It's a great place for Relaxing and activities in the beautiful nature. Thanks to Simon for the great hospitality and all good hints.

Susanne, Duderstadt

We loved this little corner of paradise. Warm welcome. Pleasant and comfortable accommodation with big windows which overlook the mountain and the forest. Our own terrace gave us some privacy. You can swim in the pool, read in the shade by a water fountain or walk down to the creek. Very pretty and quiet, perfect for resting in between visits of the area. The only inconvenience was that we had to get out of the house to access the internet.

Jeanne, Montreal

I spent 6 weeks in this beautiful location. It still has the charm of the old fruit farm that it used to be but now with the full range of modern luxuries. It is is a great location for walking in the hills and close to Perpignan and Barcelona and beautiful Spanish and French country towns. Great climate and it is good to just relax next to the pool. The host are very friendly and helpful. I can highly recommend this holiday location.

Colin, London

Great stay, great time. We'll be back. My wife and I were new to the area, but we can see the attraction. We had great walks; an easy visit to a sleepy village over the mountains in Spain; awesome wine; Ceret was amazing; did I mention the awesome local wine? Very clean premises. We've still much to explore in the area, so we're planning our return. Back home, we've been buying wine from Languedoc-Roussillon where ever we can just to remind us of our trip.

Colin, Edinburgh

We had a very enjoyable time at Can Llouquette. The welcome was lovely, and the property itself was ideal. The play areas, streams, woods and of course swimming pool were adored by the children, and for the adults there was beautiful scenery and realxed evenings spent listening to the birds and the stream below.
