French windows open into a comfortably stylish space. The main room is filled with natural light; soft blue walls, wooden floors and local sea-inspired art create a beach vibe. Claire greets you with scones, jam, apple juice and cider – all sourced from neighbouring farms. Sink into leather sofas, do puzzles around the kitchen table, cook up a brunch to last you for an active day ahead. You have your own delicious water from a bore hole, and everything is on hand for young and old – cots, bibs, highchairs and a chest stuffed with toys, DVD player, radio and books. Down steps are snug bedrooms with built-in cupboards and beds lavished in cushions. Rinse sandy toes in the underfloor heated slate bathroom, pile onto the master four-poster, drift off to music from one of the iPod docks. Little ones will love to feed the kune kune pigs, llamas – and Mini the pet sheep with her own Facebook following! Along the river spy rare beavers or shy otters, visit the nature reserve across the valley, bike to Ottery St Mary for supplies. Further afield there are adventure parks, kayaking, kitesurfing, fossil hunting – and festivals galore.

  • Wonderful selection of very tame pet farm animals that you can interact with - cuddle a pig or sheep, or hand feed a llama. All our animals are kept as pets and so are exceptionally friendly.
  • Superb rural walks and bike rides start straight from your doorstep! You can literally wander for miles on quiet single track lanes. In fact, you can reach the outskirts of the seaside town of Sidmouth, 4 miles away, having never touched a main road!
  • Set in the middle of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), surrounded by rolling Devon countryside, with wonderful far reaching views. You don't have to go far to view wildlife. Nature reserve nearby. World Heritage Jurassic Coast 5 miles away.
  • Superb picturesque villages and towns, most within 20 minutes drive - Beer, Branscombe, Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Lyme Regis (great for fossil hunting), superb shopping to be found at the city of Exeter, wonderful array of Antique shops found locally.
  • Huge array of activities for children available locally, and within a 20 minute drive: Escot, Crealy, Pecorama, Bicton, Fossil hunting at Lyme Regis, Fishing trips from Beer, Llama trekking, quad biking, Exmouth World of Countrylife, to name but a few!
  • Multi award winning restaurant, The Rusty Pig, run by former River Cottage Chef, only 1.5 miles away. Wonderful selection of great restaurants and pubs, within a 10 minute drive.

"Wow, an absolute gem! A beautiful place that we hope to visit again soon. Such charming hosts, Claire was incredibly welcoming and couldn't do enough for us and our children. We stayed here with our three young children: 7yrs, 3yrs & 3 months....& brought the grandparents along too - honestly everyone was so happy, all our needs were catered for. We were completely delighted in all the thoughtful details that had gone into making this such a special place. The decor was wonderful, bathrooms luxurious, animals on site were super-friendly. And it's located perfectly for exploring...perfect!!"

"Uncluttered, modern, restful and very quiet cottage. Home from home. All you could want is provided incl for those with children. We packed light, our third visit here. Fresh air, pure water, stars at night, beaches and moors on tap and gorgeous Ottery and Sidmouth. A perfect bolthole for exploring Somerset, Devon (north and south) and Dorset. Claire and her family are incredibly welcoming, knowledgable and delightful owners. Beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms, the space of the cottage is perfect for any number of guests. We cannot recommend it highly enough. We won't stay anywhere else in Devon"

"We loved this place. Claire and Ben couldn't have been more hospitable. The house itself is really well thought through, well equipped and comfortable. We had our own garden and sun deck with a view over the valley, and when inside we looked out over the big trees in The garden. It was quiet and secluded with great walking straight from the door. Claire allowed us to stay longer on the Sunday which made all the difference to us. Many thanks for a luxurious and peaceful weekend."

"A warm welcome from hosts Claire and Ben and a beautifully finished cottage in a peaceful location. The children's equipment and books/DVDs provided were a huge help and our children loved the atmosphere of the place as well as meeting the animals. Would highly recommend!"

"We had the most wonderful stay, even though the weather was against us we were very warm and cosy with plenty of games and puzzles and dvds provided to keep the boys entertained, as well as the great little garden for them to escape to. We will certainly be going back without a doubt. We are missing the calm and peaceful surroundings already. Also have to mention the beautiful decor and furnishings. Attention to detail is second to none, even down to the ice cream scoop! Can't wait for a return visit. "

"A MUST - The Burrow is quite honestly absolute heaven. We've stayed there twice and have just booked a third trip . It is perfect for kids, for romantic couples, for family, for anyone. Situated in a sublime and tranquil part of East Devon the nearest town is Ottery St Mary which has all you need. There are excellent public footpaths around the cottage and views to die for. Nearby is Sidmouth, a perfect seaside town with fabulous shops and no amusement arcades. Claire, Ben and their family are incredibly warm and welcoming. Fantastic hosts. The Burrow is home from home. Cosy, clean, sumptuous."
