Guests have been coming back to this cottage for years, hoping to keep it a secret. What a lovely spot: beaches galore, as well as vibrant Padstow with cafés, restaurants and buzzing harbour nearby, yet you are in total peace, far from the madding crowd. Once the Sunday School to a nearby church this pretty little cottage lives in happy harmony with School Cottage next door. Built in the 1800s, the Cornish slate still shines, the south-facing aspect drinking in as much of the sunshine as it can. Inside it is simply furnished, warm and inviting. The living and dining space come together, with cheerful blue sofas, a coal-effect fire and a window seat from which to ponder the morning; on greyer days dig into the pile of books and DVDs. The kitchen is bright and well-equipped if you decide not to visit all that Rick Stein has to offer, though you'll be tempted... Bedrooms continue the homely theme, with pine beds and framed prints on the wall. The good-sized double bedroom was once a part of the school hall, while the twin upstairs sits in the eaves, beams exposed. You can wash off a beach-worth of sand in the squeaky clean bathroom next door, then settle down to do just as you please.
