The Experience
Imagine staying on a sheep-dotted, beck-babbled, early 18th-century estate – ‘the secret jewel of Lower Wensleydale.’ Emma and Charles, lovers of animals, art and Yorkshire, have created four stunning apartments in the listed stable block, including the Hayloft where you’ll feel very private. It’s big – a wow of a space, with pendants hanging from high rafters and a half-wall separating the bed and freestanding bath from the sofas and sleek kitchen. It also oozes luxury: a drenching shower and toasty floors, a wood-burner and WiFi, soothing colours and impeccable linen. You’ll find good pubs nearby. You’re bang in the Dales for market towns, castles, Betty’s tea room and great walking, starting with the private parkland in front of the house. On rainy days just snuggle up by the wood-burner and relish the peace. Emma is a qualified yoga teacher and can offer private or group sessions – also meditation and sound gong baths.

We are so glad we discovered this gem to spend our first Christmas as Mr & Mrs. The Hayloft is luxurious and in a beautiful location. The Hayloft is brilliant for exploring North Yorkshire by car, including: posh pubs like The Blue Lion in East Witton, quaint villages such as Bedale, Northallerton and Leyburn, walks along Aysgarth Falls and the larger cities of York and Leeds (approximately 1 hour away). There is nothing to fault about this romantic retreat...sumptuous sofa to sink into, crackling log burner, extremely comfortable bed, yummy treats on arrival and spacious bathroom. Perfection!

I stayed here for a week with my dog in Head Lad, the small dog-friendly cottage at Dalesend Cottages. It was really comfortable and I loved being able to step outside with Mutley and walk round the park in front of the beautiful house. Will definitely stay here again. It was a great discovery.

We stayed in Hayloft and this apartment definitely has the WOW factor, the attention to detail is excellent and a huge amount of thought has gone into the design and interior fittings of the property. Everything is of a very high quality and it was a delight to return to the flat after a busy day investigating the dales and the surrounding area and to feel completely relaxed in such a lovely environment. The bed is super comfy. Emma and Charles were very welcoming and hospitable and we much appreciated the wine and other goodies supplied. We look forward to a return visit.

We stayed in the Hayloft for a week and loved it. The location was convenient for seeing North Yorkshire, and the cottage could not have been more comfortable. The kitchen was well fitted with everything needed, and the modern bath was wonderful. Charles and Emma were friendly and helpful. We would highly recommend Dalesend!

We chose Hayloft Cottage for our week's Autumn visit to Yorkshire, although the other three cottages in the group looked just as fantastic. It could not have been more perfect. The cottage is set on a private family estate and in a great location for exploring world-famous Wensleydale. We love trees and went to the Thorp Perrow Arboretum close by, to see the turning season's display. But even Hayloft is set in beautiful countryside and the lovely owners allow you to walk around the private park and enjoy their trees and peace. We will return and try the other cottages. Highly recommended.
