Alberto and Alexandra clearly love having guests at their beautiful 17th-century villa in the peaceful hills outside Florence – nothing is too much trouble. The spoiling starts at breakfast in the dining room with a large fireplace, or on the sun-filled terrace overlooking the city – either way you’ll find proper linen table cloths, fine silverware and glasses, fresh flowers and an array of home-baked cakes, cured meats and fruit. It’s well worth staying in for supper too – Alberto loves to prepare something different for you every night. You’ll sleep soundly in gorgeously comfortable bedrooms with interesting artwork and beautiful furniture; one room has its own terrace, all have lovely views, bathrooms are marble encrusted and enviable. You have a sumptuous drawing room too with plush sofas, exquisite curtains and lots of coffee table books on art, history, gardening. You’re just a short hop from the tram into the centre of Florence and culture by the bucket load – but the garden here is for wandering and there’s a solar heated pool to float in… it’s completely relaxing here.
